Professional Garage Door Spring Repair in College Station, TX
A broken garage door spring is one of the most disruptive failures a property owner can face, leaving heavy doors stuck in place and vehicles trapped inside or out. Secure Overhead Door responds quickly with the right springs in stock and the tools needed to complete most replacements in under two hours. Our technicians handle torsion springs, extension springs, oil-tempered springs, galvanized springs, and high-cycle springs across every door type and size. We size every spring based on door weight, height, and expected usage, not generic guesses. Quality springs from established manufacturers like Ideal Door, DURA-LIFT, and Service Spring Corp last longer than the budget springs found at big box stores. Replacing both springs at the same time is our standard recommendation because matched components wear at similar rates. Free estimates and Hearth Financing make professional spring service accessible for any budget. 24/7 emergency response is available because broken springs rarely happen at convenient times. Derick Hill leads a team focused on safety, honesty, and lasting results on every spring repair we perform.
Derek came out to install a custom roll-up door on my barn. Before he could, he needed to re-frame the opening. He got me scheduled and installed within a week and did a fantastic job. The door has been installed for a little over a month now and it’s worked flawlessly. Highly recommend.
He was very professional, pricing was what I expected, very officiant and quick, did a great job on my garage door . He replaced my spring and came the same day when I called I would recommend him
Secure Overhead Door arrived at appointed time, diagnosed the problem; problem solved quickly.
Called Secure Overhead early morning when a roll-up door at my warehouse derailed, they showed up in less than an hour and got us taken care of. Thank you!!
Wonderful job. Derrick is professional and thorough. We will definitely use Secure Overhead Doors again. Thank you guys. Susan McCourt
Hands down one of the best contractors we have dealt with. Extremely responsive (as in, insanely fast) and thorough. Solid work on many doors we have had installed. Ethical company too and great to work with. Derick (the owner), knows the products in detail and helped tremendously in matching our needs. We looked at several competitors, even ones in Dallas and Houston. Great choice for overhead doors!
It became necessary to have a new garage door installed on a Saturday. By Monday afternoon a new one was fully installed. That was fast! The nylon wheels are nice and quiet.
The estimate was very reasonable, they installed the door that we wanted within a week. The crew was efficient polite and cleaned up after themselves. I had gotten four other estimates and secure overhead door was one of the best. 12/31/25 New info: I had a slight problem with one of the doors, they came out assessed the problem and fixed it right then. Great Service!
Fast response and excellent service for emergency repairs, also noted maintenance needs and furnished those as well for a very reasonable price! Very happy with service experience.
I would highly recommend using secure overhead door. They gave us the best price of any quote we received. The door quality and the installation quality is great. Installation was prompt.
Derick has done a great job for us multiple times given we have several overhead doors that get heavy use.
Great experience. The owner contacted me within 30 minutes of my request and fixed my garage door within 20 minutes for a super reasonable price. Cannot recommend enough.
I recommend Secure Overhead Door and Derick Hill. I am a commercial property manager with over 1k roll-up doors at my facilities. They are always repaired quickly and professionally by Secure Overhead Door. Their service is quick and thorough and their prices are very competitive. No job too big or too small. Derick is competent and friendly and I use his company for all of my door needs. Give him a call. He'll likely answer on the first few rings and you won't be disappointed in his performance or his prices. Extremely satisfied customer. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The doors at my facilities were literally falling off of the hinges for months and wouldn't open or close properly. Derick quickly and accurately diagnosed the issue, selected the most cost effective way to solve the problem promptly and permanently and completed the repairs professionally. He noticed the same issue on several of my other doors and repaired them as well. Now they all operate flawlessly and didn't need replacement, like we thought they did. The repairs he recommended saved my company nearly $10k over complete replacement of the door, frame, hinges, and closer.
Secure overhead door did a great job at a reasonable price. Highly recommended.
Thank you, Derick, for your expertise and willingness to come out whenever you receive a call. I called Derick on a Saturday for help with my garage door opener, and he came out and assessed the problem. As soon as my new garage door opener arrived, he came back out and promptly installed it. Derick has an extraordinary work ethic and is extremely dedicated to helping his customers. Derick will be the only person I call in the future when I have any repairs or replacements needed for my garage door.
They always show up on time and make sure that we are satisfied with the product and service. Great company!
Called Derick last night after hours. He showed up in about 30 min and did an outstanding job fixing my door and giving it a tune up. will definitely be using them again for any future issues.
I had a garage door come off the tracks after hours... Blocking me in, and about to fall on the vehicle. The door was installed by the builder, and I have only been in the new house for 3 months! But, it was after hours (7pm), and I couldn't reach anyone. Secure Overhead Door answered the phone. He came right over. He put the garage door back in place, and straightened out the rail system. Apparently, the previous company did not install it very well. Thanks again! Great guy!
Derick came within hours of my call. He surveyed the issue then determined what needed to be done to properly fix the issue. The following day, Saturday, he arrived promptly with the parts & worked until the job was done-4 hours. He explained the door’s issue in detail. He also gave advice on proper care (the best lubricant) to keep it functioning in the future. Wonderful job! PS-Still waiting for a response from first company contacted.🤣
Derek was great! Came when he said he would. Even repaired a couple small things for me at no charge! Flawless transaction and great customer service.
Very easy to work with. Derrick is very good at what he does! He was timely in getting the job done?
All I need to say Derik is the best Gate and Garage guy I have used. Honest, on time or before scheduled time, He has always worked me in his schedule in a timely manner. I can't brag enough!!!!!

Really prompt appointment and did a professional job. I would gladly use again.
Fast and quality installed garage door opener. Very professional technicians. I would highly recommend!
Derrick came out on time and took care of our broken spring. I opted to replace the single spring with a double spring. He quoted a very reasonable price and had me back in operation in a little over an hour. I highly recommend him if you have any garage door issues.
Derrick came right away to access our issue. He was able fix our garage door within 30 minutes. He was professional, informative, courteous.
Derick is AMAZING & saved me today! Called him in the afternoon due to a broken garage. He was on another job, but kept in touch with me and showed up this evening and saved the day! Very professional, and polite. Will 100% give Secure Overhead Door a call again when needed. Big thank you again, Derick!
Guys were great and the work was too. They humored my questions and quelled my concerns about not wanting a folding door during windy storms and took my builder grade nonsense to it's grave. They went above and beyond also instaliing my brace post for crazy weather. I had bought it to reinforce the weak sauce door. The brace wouldn't even work with the silly door due to it's design. So after some conversation with Derrick during site survey just decided to go with new better door that is stronger on it's own and also works with brace on hand. Super sturdy vs original scariness. Smoother door opener action as well. Oh yeah, this is new house, door was junk from get go. New door is identical in appearance to original in appearance so no hoa issue. Price was very reasonable, give them a call.
Highly recommend this company, fast service, great communication, fixed my garage door quickly, thank you so much Secure Overhead Door.
Fast and very professional. Had a spring break. Had me up and running in less then 24 hours. Definitely use them again.
Called on a Saturday afternoon because our spring broke on our garage, Derick returned our call promptly and was able to come over within a couple house and had everything up and running the same day! Great price and service! We will definitely be recommending and using again if needed!
Derrick picked up work order and called shortly after. Got to house he and his helper knocked out garage door torsion springs in no time. Thanks and will use again.

Great service. My door broke at 3:30 and it was fixed at 4:30. Mr Hill was here 25 minutes after I called. Highly recommed!
Excellent service. I called two other companies and couldn’t even get a quote over the phone. Neither have called me back. Derick gave me a quote and came out the same day. Highly recommend!!!
Derick did a great job replacing the broken springs on my garage door. He arrived promptly, knew immediately what was wrong and had it fixed in less than 2 hours. He even fixed my keypad. I’d highly recommend Derick for any type of residential or commercial garage door repair or installation!
I own a shop constructed in the mid-1950s. When I found that all three garage doors were either broken or in poor condition, Derick stepped in to repair them all, saving me thousands of dollars in the process. I highly recommend Derick and his crew for their excellent work.

When my garage door broke on Sunday morning I called Secure Overhead Door and they arrived in less than an hour. Clear pricing. 3 year warranty on the new spring. They did some routine maintenance for me while they were here. It was apparent they were very knowledgeable about repair, maintenance and installation. I would call them again and highly recommend them.
Wow! Great service, changed out a 22 year old garage door opener 2 hours after I called! Chamberlain so much quieter than the old Craftsmen. Highly recommend!
Called them on a Friday to get a quote and they were able to come out same day. They gave me an honest and thorough walk through of all the issues with my garage door, but didn't try to oversell me. They then gave me a very very fair price quote and offered to do the work right then and there, at 5PM on a Friday! They were super professional, honest, and did excellent work and the price was unbeatable. I'd highly recommend if you're needing garage work done!
My garage door spring busted on Saturday (of course) of a holiday weekend. I called Derick and he was at our home within a few hours that day. He was courteous, professional and thoroughly explained all options. He got our garage door functioning that day and came back to install the new spring. Derick not only fixed the broken spring and installed some new rollers, but he took the time to provide a lot of helpful maintenance tips. These guys are amazing. Professional at all times. Fantastic work. A job well done. I highly recommend them.
Very professional. Was right on schedule with forecasted build and install. Quality of work is outstanding!
I couldn’t asked for a better service than I received. I had two powered rollup garage door screens installed. From start to finish I was very impressed by the promptness, professionalism, tidiness, and efficiency displayed throughout the entire installation. I am very proud of the job done for me and I highly recommend Secure Overhead Doors if you have similar needs. —Ervin McLellan—

Derick was very professional and did excellent work. Would recommend his company 10 out of 10 times.
Just bought a place and the remote control wasn't included with my garage door opener. After the call arrived in under 10 minutes and spent less than 5 minutes and now I can get in and out of my garage from the outside. Very reasonably priced and grateful. Highly recommended.

Garage Door Spring Repair in College Station, TX
Torsion springs are the most common type used on modern garage doors, mounted horizontally above the door opening. These springs store energy by twisting along their length, with the stored tension counterbalancing the door weight during operation. Torsion springs offer smoother operation and longer life than extension springs in most applications. Standard residential torsion springs are rated for around 10,000 cycles, which translates to approximately seven to nine years of average household use. High-cycle springs rated for 20,000, 50,000, or even 100,000 cycles are available for higher-use applications. Commercial doors typically use heavier-gauge torsion springs sized for the larger door weight. Our technicians calculate proper spring requirements based on multiple measurements taken from the door itself. Correct sizing is the foundation of long-lasting spring performance.
Extension springs run along the horizontal tracks on either side of the garage door, stretching and releasing as the door moves. These springs are still common on older doors and on doors with limited headroom above the opening. Extension springs work in pairs, with each side supporting half the door weight. Safety cables running through extension springs are essential to prevent the spring from becoming a projectile if it breaks. Our team installs safety cables during every extension spring replacement because federal safety guidelines require them. Extension springs are generally less expensive than torsion springs but typically have shorter service lives. Replacement is more complex than torsion spring work in some ways, requiring careful attention to pulley systems and cable routing. We handle both types confidently and safely.
Spring sizing matters more than many homeowners realize. Springs are rated by wire gauge, inside diameter, and length, with each measurement affecting the lifting capacity. Even small variations in any of these measurements change the spring’s lifting power significantly. A spring that is too weak cannot lift the door and burns out quickly. An overly strong spring causes the door to rise too fast and can damage opener components. The Ideal Door spring chart and other manufacturer references help technicians match springs to specific door weights. Door weight depends on size, material, insulation, and accessories like windows and decorative hardware. Our team measures or estimates door weight using a tension scale or calculated approach. Accurate sizing prevents repeated spring failures.
Spring replacement procedures involve several careful steps when done correctly. The door must be secured in the down position before any spring work begins. Existing spring tension is released using winding bars inserted into the spring cones. Cables are then disconnected from the bottom brackets, and the old springs are removed from the torsion tube. New springs are installed onto the tube, oriented correctly for the door’s specific configuration. Cables are reconnected and tensioned, and then the new springs are wound to the proper number of turns. Final balance testing confirms that the springs are tensioned correctly for safe operation. Each step requires specialized tools and trained technique. Skipping any step creates safety hazards or premature failure.
Spring lubrication during maintenance extends service life and reduces noise. Silicone-based or lithium-based lubricants work well on garage door springs without attracting excessive dust. White lithium grease is commonly used during professional service visits for spring maintenance. Lubrication should be applied along the full length of the spring, with the spring rotated through several cycles to distribute the product evenly. Regular lubrication every six months can extend spring life by reducing friction between the coils. Coastal and high-humidity environments benefit from more frequent lubrication. Our maintenance plans include spring lubrication as part of every service visit. Small attention now prevents big problems later.
Spring inspection looks for warning signs that replacement may be needed soon. Gaps between coils in torsion springs indicate that the spring is starting to fail or has already broken. Healthy springs maintain consistent spacing between coils throughout their length. Rust spots, deformed coils, and visible cracks all point toward replacement. Extension springs that are stretched out of shape or have damaged hooks need attention. Listening to the door during operation can also reveal spring issues. Doors that struggle to open, drift open or closed when partially open, or feel heavy when operated manually all suggest spring problems. Our technicians check spring condition during every service call.
Replacing both springs at the same time is standard practice for several good reasons. Matched springs wear at similar rates, so one breaking usually means the other is close to failure. Replacing only the broken spring leaves the homeowner with a system where the new and old components do not work together harmoniously. The labor cost to replace one spring is similar to the labor cost for replacing both, making the marginal cost of the second spring very small. Avoiding a second service call within months saves money and inconvenience. Replacing pairs together also ensures balanced lifting force across both sides of the system. Our team recommends pair replacement on every relevant service call. Customers who choose to replace only one spring typically need the second replaced soon after.

Most Common Garage Door Spring Repair Questions
Spring failures stop garage doors completely and create real frustration for homeowners and businesses. The answers below address the questions customers ask most often.
Standard residential garage door springs typically last seven to nine years under average household use. Manufacturers rate most springs for approximately 10,000 cycles, with each opening and closing counting as one cycle. Households that use the garage door four to six times daily fall into the average range. Heavier-use households with multiple drivers may cycle the door eight to ten times per day, reducing spring lifespan to five to seven years. High-cycle springs rated for 20,000 to 100,000 cycles last significantly longer but cost more upfront. The investment in better springs pays off in fewer replacement cycles over the life of the door. Our team helps customers weigh standard versus high-cycle options based on usage patterns.
Environmental factors significantly affect spring lifespan in the Brazos Valley climate. Humidity accelerates rust formation on uncoated springs, weakening the metal over time. Galvanized springs resist corrosion better than basic black springs. Coated springs offer additional protection in high-humidity environments. Temperature extremes also stress springs, with sudden cold snaps causing many spring failures during Texas winters. Coastal properties experience faster spring degradation from salt air exposure. Heavy doors put more strain on springs than lighter ones, shortening lifespan in proportion to the additional weight. Insulated doors and wood doors typically wear springs faster than basic steel doors.
Installation quality affects spring lifespan as much as the springs themselves. Improperly sized springs wear out quickly because they cannot support the door weight efficiently. Mismatched spring pairs wear at different rates, creating imbalance that strains the entire system. Incorrect tension at installation shortens service life and creates safety risks. Tracks that are out of alignment force springs to work harder than necessary. Worn rollers and dragging cables also add to spring workload. Comprehensive installation that addresses the whole door system, not just the springs, produces the longest service life. Our team takes the whole-system approach on every spring replacement. Quality work today prevents repeated problems tomorrow.
Garage door spring replacement typically costs between $200 and $500 for residential doors. Standard torsion spring replacement on a single-spring door usually falls in the $150 to $300 range. Double-spring torsion systems typically cost $250 to $450 to replace both springs. Extension spring replacement is generally less expensive, ranging from $150 to $300 for a pair. High-cycle springs cost more than standard springs but offer much longer service life. Commercial spring replacement costs more because of larger spring sizes and heavier door weights. Every quote we provide is itemized so customers see exactly what they are paying for. Hidden fees have no place in honest service work.
Several factors influence the final spring replacement cost. Spring type and quality affect parts pricing significantly. Trip charges and service call fees vary among contractors. Emergency or after-hours service typically carries higher costs because of staffing demands. Replacing both springs in a pair adds modest cost over replacing only one but is almost always the right choice. Additional repairs like cable replacement, roller upgrades, or track adjustment may be recommended during the same visit. Bundling repairs in a single service call is more economical than separate appointments. Our team identifies all door issues during spring service so customers can make informed decisions about complete repair.
Repair versus replacement decisions sometimes come into play during spring service. Doors older than 20 to 25 years with multiple worn components may benefit from full replacement rather than continued repair. Aging openers may need replacement around the same time as worn springs. Combining major work into a single project often saves money over multiple separate service calls. New doors come with fresh springs, modern hardware, and full warranty coverage. Financing through Hearth makes major projects manageable on monthly payment plans. Our team provides honest assessments so customers can make smart financial decisions. Pushing replacement when repair makes sense is not how we do business.
A loud bang from the garage is often the first sign of a broken spring. Springs release stored energy violently when they fail, creating a sound similar to a firework or gunshot. Many homeowners hear the bang from inside the house and wonder what happened until they try to open the garage door. The door usually refuses to open or feels much heavier than normal when manually lifted. A visible gap in the torsion spring above the door is a clear sign of failure. Healthy torsion springs maintain consistent coil spacing throughout their length. Broken springs show a clear separation point where the metal has snapped. Visual inspection from below confirms the diagnosis in most cases.
Doors that struggle to open or only open partially often have spring problems. Openers that strain audibly and stop before the door fully opens are usually fighting against insufficient spring force. Doors that slam down rapidly when closing suggest spring issues. Crooked operation, where one side of the door lifts faster than the other, points to a broken spring on a system with one functioning spring remaining. Heavy doors that require unusual effort to lift manually indicate spring trouble. Photo eye sensors and balance issues sometimes mimic spring problems, so professional diagnosis is helpful. Our technicians identify the exact cause during every service visit. Accurate diagnosis prevents wasted money on parts that do not solve the problem.
Some spring problems are subtler and develop over time. Springs that have not yet snapped but are losing tension may show stretched coils, slight gaps developing along the length, or visible rust and pitting. Operation may become slower or less smooth over weeks or months as the spring weakens. Openers working harder than usual to lift the door suggest spring assistance is decreasing. Doors that drift open or closed when stopped midway point to spring imbalance. Listening to door operation can reveal spring issues before complete failure. Routine professional inspection catches subtle spring problems early, allowing planned replacement before a sudden break. Our maintenance plans include thorough spring evaluation.
Cold weather is one of the most common times for garage door springs to break. Metal becomes more brittle at low temperatures, losing some of the flexibility that helps it absorb daily operating stress. Springs that have accumulated significant wear over years of use often fail during the first cold snap of winter. The combination of accumulated fatigue and reduced flexibility in cold metal pushes weakened springs over the edge. Many spring failures happen during the first morning opening after a cold night. Texas winters produce occasional cold snaps that catch aging springs unprepared. Coastal properties may experience less severe cold but still see weather-related spring failures.
The way springs are stressed during operation also matters in cold weather. Springs work hardest when first beginning the lifting motion, before any momentum builds. Cold metal that has been resting overnight has stiffened and is less ready for the sudden load of door opening. Springs near the end of their service life are particularly vulnerable to cold weather failure. Healthy springs that have been properly maintained handle temperature changes much better. Lubrication during maintenance helps reduce friction-related wear that contributes to cold weather breaks. Replacing aging springs before the cold season prevents inconvenient mid-winter failures. Our maintenance plans help customers stay ahead of seasonal spring problems.
Preparing garage doors for cold weather involves several straightforward steps. Lubrication of springs, hinges, rollers, and pivot points should be performed in the fall. Visual inspection of spring condition catches obvious problems before cold weather arrives. Operating the door slowly during the first morning use can help reduce stress on cold metal components. Weather seals around the door reduce cold air infiltration and protect components from temperature extremes. Heated garages experience less spring wear than unheated spaces but are uncommon in Texas residences. Our team can perform pre-winter maintenance to prepare your door for cold weather. Routine attention prevents most weather-related failures.
Replacing both garage door springs at the same time is the right choice in nearly every case. Spring pairs typically wear at similar rates because they share the door weight evenly during every operation. When one spring breaks, the other has accumulated nearly identical wear and is approaching its own failure point. Replacing only the broken spring leaves the homeowner with a system where new and old components must work together. The mismatched wear creates imbalance and shortens the life of the new spring. A second spring failure within weeks or months of the first is a common consequence of single spring replacement.
Labor costs are essentially the same for replacing one or two springs because the same setup and procedures are required either way. The marginal cost of the second spring is small compared to the value of avoiding a second service call. Avoiding a future trip charge, service fee, and another lengthy wait makes pair replacement the economical choice. Customers who choose to save money by replacing only one spring almost always end up paying more in the long run. Our team explains this clearly so customers can make informed decisions. Honest advice prevents customers from making short-term decisions that cost more over time.
There are rare situations where single spring replacement makes sense. Springs that broke prematurely due to manufacturing defects or installation errors may not reflect end-of-life wear. The remaining spring in such cases may still have significant service life. Recently installed springs that suffered impact damage from external factors might also warrant single replacement. These situations are exceptions rather than the rule. Most spring failures involve normal accumulated wear that affects both springs nearly equally. Our technicians evaluate the specific circumstances during every service call. Recommendations are based on what actually serves the customer’s long-term interests.
Opening a garage door manually with a broken spring is possible but difficult and somewhat dangerous. Garage doors weigh between 130 and 350 pounds for typical residential applications, with insulated doors and wood doors at the heavier end. Without spring assistance, the full door weight must be lifted by the person operating it. Most adults can technically lift a door this heavy with effort, but doing so creates injury risk to backs, shoulders, and hands. A second person greatly improves safety when manual operation is necessary. Releasing the opener from the door using the manual release cord is required before any manual lifting attempt. The red emergency release handle hanging from the opener mechanism is designed for this purpose.
Holding a manually opened door in the open position requires support that the springs would normally provide. C-clamps installed on the tracks below the rollers can support the door temporarily. Locking pliers or other clamps may also work for short-term holding. Trying to hold the door open by hand for extended periods is impractical and exhausting. The door may slam down quickly if the lifter loses grip, creating injury and damage risk. Closing the door after manual opening requires careful, controlled lowering rather than letting it drop. The same weight that made lifting difficult also makes lowering hazardous. Our team responds quickly to broken spring calls to restore safe operation.
Avoiding manual operation when possible is the better choice for most situations. Calling for emergency service typically gets the door fixed within hours rather than days. Most spring failures qualify for emergency response because of the security and safety concerns they create. Our 24/7 emergency service is available for situations that cannot wait for next-day appointments. Temporary measures like leaving vehicles outside the garage may be more practical than struggling with manual operation. Our service trucks carry common spring sizes for fast replacement on the first visit. Same-day service is often available when calls come in during business hours. Quick response minimizes the inconvenience of broken spring situations.
Torsion springs and extension springs accomplish the same job of counterbalancing door weight but work in very different ways. Torsion springs are mounted horizontally above the door opening on a metal shaft called the torsion tube. These springs store energy by twisting along their length rather than stretching. As the door closes, cables wound around drums on the torsion tube cause the springs to twist tighter, storing energy. When the door opens, the springs unwind and release that stored energy to assist with lifting. The smooth twisting motion provides controlled, even support throughout the door’s travel.
Extension springs are mounted horizontally along the upper tracks on each side of the door. These springs stretch and release as the door moves, with the stretching action storing energy. Pulleys and cables connect the springs to the bottom of the door, transferring the spring force to lift the door panels. Extension springs are still common on older doors and on doors with limited headroom above the opening where torsion shafts will not fit. Safety cables running through extension springs are required to contain the spring if it breaks. Without safety cables, a broken extension spring can become a dangerous projectile.
Each spring type has advantages and disadvantages worth understanding. Torsion springs generally offer smoother, more balanced operation throughout the door’s travel. They typically last longer than extension springs under similar use conditions. Extension springs are usually less expensive to purchase and install initially. Torsion springs require more headroom above the door, making them unsuitable for some installations. Extension springs work in tight spaces where torsion shafts will not fit. Most modern doors use torsion springs because of their superior performance. Our team can advise on the best spring type for any specific installation. Choosing the right system at installation pays off in long-term performance.
Regular lubrication is the single most effective way to extend garage door spring life. Silicone-based or lithium-based lubricants applied every six months reduce friction between spring coils. The reduced friction means less stress on the metal during each operating cycle. Lubrication should be applied along the full length of the spring with the spring rotated through several cycles to distribute the product. White lithium grease is commonly used during professional service visits. Avoiding heavy oils and grease that attract dust is important for keeping springs clean. Our maintenance plans include spring lubrication as part of every visit. Small attention now prevents bigger problems later.
Maintaining proper door balance reduces strain on springs significantly. Unbalanced doors force springs to work harder than they should, accelerating wear. Balance testing involves disconnecting the opener and lifting the door manually to about halfway. A properly balanced door stays in place when released at the halfway point. Doors that fall or rise when released need spring tension adjustment. Our technicians check balance during every service visit and adjust as needed. Heavy doors with insulation, windows, or wood construction need correctly sized springs for proper balance. Selecting the right springs at installation prevents premature wear.
Other maintenance activities also contribute to extended spring life. Worn rollers create drag that springs must overcome, so replacing rollers improves spring efficiency. Loose hardware throughout the door system adds resistance to operation. Track alignment affects how smoothly the door moves and how much work the springs must do. Weather seals that drag heavily on the floor or jamb create resistance. Opener adjustments matter too, with force settings that work with rather than against the springs. Comprehensive maintenance addresses every component that affects door operation. Our team takes the whole-system approach during every service call. Quality maintenance pays off in years of additional spring life.
